"Something
Unknown" in photography show
Get ready for the fine-art imagery of two accomplished Washington
photographers. Ken Smith and Yuko Ishii,
who live in a log home at the foothills of the North
Cascades, will be the featured artists in Orcas Center's
main gallery for the month of November.
Both Smith and Ishii's photography is strongly
influenced by natural forces and shapes.
Ishii's works, which have been included in many
exhibits throughout the state, are often multi-media,
merging photography with other techniques.
She uses everything from pen and ink, to her own
poetry, written in Japanese. Her images are often
layered and blended by computer. In her work, Ishii
is always in pursuit of the unknown. "When I
photograph subjects I try to communicate their
spirits and look for the unexpected imagery that
results," she said. "What I always want to perceive
through my art is something unknown."
